I visited The Local in back in July and made a reservation for Sunday lunch a few days ahead. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere wasn’t as warm or welcoming. Our waiter was attentive, but the rest of the staff made us feel like we were a bit of a burden. I noted on my reservation and again before ordering that I’m a pescatarian. While it was my fault for not reading the description closely, the deep-fried sea bass ended up containing chicken. The catch of the day (snapper) with lime juice, chili, and garlic was easily the best thing we ordered —something I still think about. The appetizer platter looked nice, but the flavors were flat and didn’t taste very fresh. The pineapple fried rice was okay, and honestly I should’ve just gone with the purple rice. The day-aged cobia fish was a solid option if you want something on the lighter side. People say mango sticky rice tastes the same everywhere but I beg to differ. The one here was one of the best I had in Thailand. The food was reasonably priced for what it was, but the service and ambiance could use improvement. I didn’t feel welcomed at all and kept feeling like we were an inconvenience, which took away from the experience.

Introduced by a local Thai friend about this restaurant and decided to make a reservation. The restaurant has a unique local theme design and overall its interior is bright and attractive. The Michelin rated food taste amazing and prices are not out of reach. Unique flower based appetizer really caught my attention and has an interesting complex fragrance taste on every bite. I do recommend this restaurant, you do need to make a reservation.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Local in Bangkok, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the restaurant’s charming traditional Thai house setting. The beautiful wooden architecture and elegant décor create a warm and authentic atmosphere that immediately makes you feel like you are experiencing real Thai culture. The service was outstanding from start to finish. The staff were extremely professional, polite, and attentive. They took the time to explain the menu, offer recommendations, and ensure everything was perfect throughout the meal. Their knowledge of the dishes and genuine hospitality made the experience even more enjoyable. As for the food, it was absolutely exceptional. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of rich, balanced flavors. The ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, and you can tell that great care and authenticity go into every recipe. The traditional Thai spices and herbs were perfectly combined, creating dishes that were both flavorful and memorable. Each bite reflected true Thai culinary craftsmanship. The atmosphere was calm and refined, making it perfect for both special occasions and relaxed fine dining. Despite the high quality of food and service, the pricing felt fair for the overall experience. Overall, The Local delivers an authentic Thai dining experience with excellent service, beautiful surroundings, and outstanding cuisine. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Bangkok who wants to enjoy genuine Thai flavors in an elegant setting. I will definitely return on my next visit. ⸻ If you’d like, tell me what specific dishes you ordered, and I can make the review even more detailed and personal.

The Local is all about serious Thai food done right. Definitely start with the assorted appetizers and don’t miss the wonderful rice selection — beautifully presented and full of flavor. This is our favorite restaurant when we want to eat Thai food at a truly high level. If you’re looking for refined, authentic Thai cuisine, this is your place. Reservations are highly recommended, as it’s always packed. A must-visit when you’re in Bangkok. No Bib Gourmand anymore, but honestly, they might as well give it a star.

If you want Thai food that feels thoughtful rather than flashy, The Local delivers a polished, sit-down experience with comforting flavors and a menu that covers a lot of ground—without losing the “Thai soul” along the way. The food presentation is fun (pineapple bowl, coconut bowl), but the bigger win is that the flavors feel well-judged and consistent across dishes. It’s the kind of meal where you can go heavy—curry, crab, fried rice—and still feel like everything “fits.” Reasonable/normal pricing for the quality and setting—doesn’t feel “premium overpriced,” which is a pleasant surprise for a restaurant that plates this nicely. Go with a group so you can mix one rich curry, one bright salad, one grilled item, and one rice/noodle—that combination hits the best balance. *minus points for mosquitos... it's really annoying :( Verdict: A reliable pick for a proper Thai meal in Bangkok—comforting, flavorful, and just polished enough to feel like a treat.
