a week agoHad the Kata Aoki set, and I appreciate that they have a 150g option. My order took around 10mins to arrive. The katsu arrived sufficiently hot and crispy, although it was not as juicy as I hoped it would be and it unfortunately had a slightly porky smell. I liked that they had various salad dressings and condiments to eat with the katsu, and it was fun customizing my bites. Servers were attentive, often providing salad and tea refills. I would love to come back but I hope they improve in procuring better quality meat.

7 months agoI’ve been going back and forth between Tonkatsu Aoki and Tonkatsu Wako, and I want to share a fair and honest comparison. At Tonkatsu Aoki, I ordered their signature Kata Set, which was excellent—especially when paired with a bit of pink salt (though the pepper salt had an unpleasant, fishy smell). The rice was soft with a nice fragrance, perfectly cooked. I also ordered a Japanese curry on the side for THB 100, and I’d highly recommend it if you’re a fan of Japanese-style curry—it paired wonderfully with the rice and tonkatsu. That said, Tonkatsu Wako’s soup really stood out for me. It tasted homemade and comforting—the kind of flavor that stays with you. I still miss it even now. When it comes to service, Aoki has the edge—it felt more attentive and refined—but that’s not to say Wako’s service was bad. It’s just that Aoki felt a touch more polished. On the other hand, Aoki is noticeably a bit more expensive, so that’s something to keep in mind. In conclusion, I’d like to return to Tonkatsu Wako soon to try their signature dish again for a fair comparison. But for now, both are excellent in their own ways. Thumbs up to Tonkatsu Aoki—they definitely deserve 5 stars.

8 months agoGreat Tonkatsu restaurant, which - dare I say it - has a very similar taste to Maisen, including the special Tonkatsu sauce, that I find super delicious (applies to both). I guess that makes this now my #1 place, due to the demise of the aforementioned franchise. They have many options to choose from, including the juiciness and quality of the meat (pork shoulder, tenderloin), shrimps and Japanese curry. The condiments are plentiful with several dressings, chili powder, mustard (spicy), salt, pepper, etc. The waiters were super attentive, refilling tea, sauces and rice (yes, no charge), when needed. The rice deserves a special mention, because of the cooking pot that everybody gets. While it does look fancy, it also makes sure that your rice stays warm until the end, plus it gives flair/character to the whole experience. The whole place looks new, clean and a bit "upscale", which in part is of course owed to the Ekkamai Corner Building, exhibiting similar attributes. That also brings me to the only downside, the price. It is not downright expensive, but all the "glamour" does impact the affordability, in my opinion. However, definitely recommended, if you are lusting after a proper Tonkatsu in Bangkok. 👍

5 months agoWe’ve dined here many times and usually enjoy it. However, on our most recent visit the tonkatsu sauce tasted different and unfortunately not as good as before. When we asked a staff member, they mentioned the sauce had been changed. Because of this, we may not visit as often as we used to.

8 months agoTonkatsu isn't my favorite food but here is different. The menu provide detaily about the pork juiciness and it help to make a decision. The deep fried work done very well. Cabbage and rice can refill all the time. Salad seasoning and salt are multiple options to try. Super value for the price I paid. This place will be a best Tonkatsu rice on my recommendation!
