a year agoOur friend highly recommended this restaurant and it was an excellent choice. Very good vibe and very friendly service staff except for one lady. Still we had excellent dinner and wonderful experience. Note this is type of cuisine can be very spicy, so best to tell them minimum if you’re not so experienced. Some dishes involved fermentation as the nature of this cuisines. The cooking, the seasoning is perfect. Desserts were also unexpectedly very good. Highly recommended and will be back.

10 months ago10/10 One of my favourite restaurants in Bangkok. I come here quite often and tend to bring people over for hang out, birthday dinner, or even a casual business dinner. It’s also my go to spot for bringing foreigner friends who love some spicy Thai food. Their food was immaculate. I dont wish they change anything, it’s absolutely wonderful. The Thai flavours are super intense and not for a newbie. All the grilled and fried fish are a little too oily for my liking but other choices are always available. Great selections of dessert and wine. The staffs are well spoken and can recommend great wines as well. They are always friendly and very welcoming. Love their music choices here as well. Every time I come there would be at least one person or one occasion or someone shazaming the music. The corner by the big mirror gets a little crowded and sometimes and the noise level is high there because it echos as well as the round table area. But other seats were easy for casual conversations. Super easy to park as well! Love it here and will always come back! ♡

10 months agoThe best Esarn restaurant I've ever had in Bangkok. The food is authentic and, at the same time, very creative. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff is helpful. I really want to go back again soon.

11 months agoIsaan cuisine is known for being spicy, salty, and often fermented. It’s not subtle food and Zao embraces this head-on. We came here on a recommendation and not knowing what to expect. We started with the grilled fermented fish, which was intensely salty at first bite. But when paired with raw onion, the saltiness surprisingly softened, possibly because the sharpness of the onion helped balance the funk. It’s not a beginner’s dish, but it’s interesting if you’re curious about their staples. The Thai omelette was comfort food done right: mild enough to anchor the stronger dishes. The grilled pork ribs were one of the highlights, well-seasoned, tender, and satisfyingly charred. The mango salad was fresh and tangy with good acidity. Unfortunately, the watermelon salad was a letdown. It felt overloaded. Their dishes may not be for everyone. Expect serious heat, bold salt, and funk-forward flavors. If you’re into that, Zao delivers. If not, it might feel like too much all at once. The ambience is lovely, it’s in one of the residential areas with a lovely outdoor garden.
